The students in my 7th- and 8th-grade classroom show up everyday, eager to be like every other student in the school. They do not want to be different; they want to read the same books, complete work out of the same textbooks, and complete the same assignments as students their age. They are struggling readers and writers. They struggle in math, and they have language and behavior barriers that prohibit them from learning like other students.
My goal is to make my students feel as supported and prepared as possible. I work in an inner city Chicago public school. The neighborhood in which they live does not allow for them to go play on the streets like other kids. I would like for them to grab a book, instead of a video controller.
If they have the support in school of audio books, or apps that would engage and enhance their skills, I feel that it would improve their comprehension skills and give them the confidence they need to read more on their own.
