All children are experts on themselves. My students often struggle with words and need pictures to help them show their true selves. They can become frustrated when trying to draw and no "stock" pictures really show their personalities. By having them take pictures and videos of how they see themselves and their worlds, we are acknowledging that they matter.
My students' pictures speak volumes for what they want us to know. By using their pictures, we can create stories - narratives and non-fiction. Their pictures are the springboard for writing and reading about them as individuals and as part of the class, school, and the community.
