I am an Art teacher in a low-income high poverty school district. All of the students in the district qualify for free lunch and most are faced with insurmountable life challenges before they even arrive to school in the morning. When budgets are tight the arts are never a major priority regardless of the impact they have on a child's life. I want my students to value and appreciate the arts and understand the critical role they play as contributing members of society.
