My students all have autism spectrum disorder. We are part of a center-based program housed inside a general education building. My students are high functioning and spend a majority of their day in the general education classroom while other students that struggle to read and complete math on their grade level work with me at those times but still do mainstream into the general education class to complete social studies and science with their peers. We want the student to have as much exposure to building relationships with their peers along with completing Common Core curriculum as much as possible!
The school population is very warm and accepting to my students. General education students are more than willing to come into the classroom to help my students complete their work and will help guide them to their destination in the hallway. This is really a great school to house such a large ASD program.
