The students in my classroom come from all over the world and from all types of families. Many different cultures such as African, Somali, Egyptian, African American, Hispanic, Asian, and American are represented in our classroom. We are blessed to have these cultures and families and look for many opportunities to celebrate the diversity that makes our school unique. My students are very capable, but face challenges such as poverty, and family disarray and don't always have support to turn to at home. Despite this, the students in my class are eager, energetic and proud to be part of a school on the rise. The motto of our school is "Rise Up". That is the attitude that teachers and students come to school with everyday. We are in a tough neighborhood and face tough challenges, but continue to rise above those challenges, use them to positively enrich the lives of the school community and rise up to help our students become the successful and productive individuals we know they can be.
