Many of my students are special education students who are receiving related services such as counseling and speech therapy. The students require strategies with reading comprehension as well as many language skills. Many students have difficulty with gathering information from texts read and writing information using grammatically correct sentences. These students are taught syntax and semantics when writing sentences. Many speech students also have difficulty comprehending texts due to limited vocabulary knowledge; therefore, many goals include learning new vocabulary through synonyms and antonyms as well as homophones, homonyms and homographs. These enable students to have a vast knowledge of vocabulary since they are producing 2-4 words per one word learned from the text. Some speech students have articulation issues which require assistance with the way they produce the sounds of speech. Students learn techniques to minimize and stop these errors from occurring.
