The children in my class, as in any, have a variety of interests, varying home environments and varying levels of access to books at home. Our students select reading materials to take home to read to their families every night and we encourage 15-20 minutes of reading at home to foster strong readers. The opportunity to read to a grown up each night allows children to practice their growing bank of strategies while connecting with others through stories and building understanding of new concepts.
