I believe that technology is essential for preparing students for their collegiate and post-collegiate careers. Consistent access to scholarly online research, exploratory educational sites, and word processing programs must be in the classroom in order for students to grow in an academic setting. These Chromebooks will be used during our writing workshop days for researching and for publishing their drafts. Students will be able to work individually and collaboratively as they push their research and creativity. They will also be used for our learning centers, wherein students rotate around the room to different "stations" and use online resources to enhance their understanding of the unit, including interactive websites and educational videos.
Technology in the classroom allows students to interact with their assignment with meaning and creativity. Students will be able to independently research topics for their informational essays and research based activism essays. These assignments help my students to not only examine key issues from multiple perspectives, but to also prepare them for the real world ahead. In addition to their research based assignments, students will have the opportunity to draft and publish their creative writing assignments, including their poetry unit. This unit encourages students to experiment with their writing and the space and structure in which it is published. Having a word processing application that is conducive to this work will open the door to creative exploration.
