We added more students to this event. We do not have enough copies of Into the Beautiful North to give each student participating their own book. It will also give them another book to add to their home library. The students selected to participate are diverse academically and socially.
If they have their own copy of the book, they can read and digest at a pace that accommodates their learning level. They will also be able to take notes and highlight areas to reflect on and discuss later. We will have 3 to 4 discussion sessions throughout the next month.
This campus event is happening in conjunction with the Dallas Public Library and the National Education Association (NEA)'s Big Read event. Representatives from the Dallas Public Library will attend and facilitate activities focusing on the book. The participating teachers and myself will interact with the students outside of the event session with the Dallas Public Library.
