My students have an economically challenging home life and structure. Despite their home life, my students dream of becoming teachers, doctors, scientists, police officers, and even rock stars. Not only do I have two grade levels, first and second grade, but the majority of my students are English learners. There are many varied levels of learners in my room, from beginning readers to students who achieve above grade level. Our school is located in the middle of gang territory. Although my young students face many hard choices in their lives, they still come to school ready to learn everyday. We have built our own classroom community, where students can feel safe to express themselves and learn.
