I chose flexible seating materials for my students because they need these sensory tools in order to stay focused and motivated. I have 11 students with special needs that could really benefit with these sensory tools. I need the balance balls for my autistic students in order for them to stay in their seat and be able to focus. The wobble seats and cushions for my students being assessed with ADHD, these seats provide stimulation for these students which in then allows them to focus. The chair bands are for all my students, since they are so young and fidget often, the bands will help them stay in their seats and allow them to focus on the lesson or activity. My students are so young and have a hard time sitting still that the different variations of seating will help keep their engagement.
My 11 students with special needs and my 2 students with extreme behavior will benefit from flexible seating. In order to eliminate distractions during instruction and to gain student attention, flexible seating is an element that needs to be present in my TK classroom.
