I currently teach 5th grade in a gifted cluster classroom. While only 3 students are classified as gifted, the majority of my students are highly motivated and are competitive with themselves and their classmates. They are respectful of each other and their teacher. Most importantly, we have fun while learning.
They love reading and use AR (Accelerated Reader) to track their progress. The goal in our classroom is to read 1,000,000 words by the end of the year.
My students come from low-income homes and many have parents who are very supportive of their learning, while others have more difficult home lives. They really enjoy their time at school and are disappointed when we have a day off.
