Help me give my students HIGH quality fiction books that will help them INSPIRE as readers. A large portion of my students come from Spanish speaking families and therefore are just beginning to learn and feel comfortable with the English language. At times it's difficult to find quality books that can continue to assist them in their path to learning the English language.
Each text tell stories that exemplifies perseverance, dignity, adversity, history, sympathy, and action. I selected 3 award-winning book titles: "Stone Fox,", "The Most Beautiful Place in the World," and "The Watsons Go to Birmingham." My students will be using these books during guiding reading, independent reading, and during the writing block time, which are all a part of my rotation stations during the reading block. At times it's difficult to find quality books that can continue to assist them in their path to learning the English language. I have included Spanish versions as well to invite parents to checkout a book to read from home.
All students will be able to broaden their ideas about diversity. I will also be able to use it with future 5th grade classes.
