The classroom rug hosts a variety of learning activities throughout the day. In the morning it is a place to come together and greet each other. During our reading block it is a place to listen to read-alouds and then cuddle up with a good book to read independently. In our math block, students are engaged in playing a variety of math games. And at the end of the day, it is a place to have our closing circle.
One of our district's goals this year is to have all of our students engaged in academic conversations and to have students give reasons for their thinking. The rug I am requesting will be a great place to have students share their thinking with partners and help each student contribute to classroom conversations.
