I have 32 sixth grade students in a border town community in Arizona. All are second language learners, most of them children of immigrant field workers trying to better their lives and the lives of their children. Due to low funding, our district is not able to supply all basic materials needed by students. Many teachers, including myself, see fit to spend our own money in helping students reach their learning goals or we have to find resources that will aid in providing the necessary materials for our classrooms.
