Young children need to see, touch, and feel to effectively learn. These reading rods will allow them to physically manipulate letters and sounds while making words. It will help make the connection of the difference between letters, words, and sentences in a concrete way. These reading rods will be used in whole group instruction making CVC words and working with word families. They will be used in small groups to establish the relationship between letters and sounds. They will be used in an independent study by building words they find around the room or in stories.
