Being a therapist, I am fortune to have the opportunity to work with multiple grades. My current teaching assignment has me working with students from Pre-K to 6th grade and 9th to 12th grade. I service approximately 65 students at a Head Start school, two elementary schools, and a high school. The students I work with have been diagnosed as having a disability in some area of communication: language, articulation, voice, and/or fluency (stuttering.) School in general can be tough for the average student. The classroom is one big communication exchange, and my students face extra challenges every day when trying to communicate in the classroom setting. It is my job to make sure that they improve their communication to a level where they feel comfortable participating and engaging in class, as that is how true learning occurs. I feel honored to have this responsibility, and I know that what I do affects lives!
