Music centers in the music classroom help students further develop their skills with rhythmic and melodic reading in a small group setting. In addition, music centers can help students learn instrument characteristics, and provide independent reading time. In our music classroom, we do not use desks and chairs. In a lesson the students sit on a rug, go to instruments, and use the space for dancing and movement. For a music center activity, flexible seating would help with student engagement and be more comfortable for this part of the lesson.
