I am a second grade bilingual teacher in a high poverty area in Chicago. I have 29 students, all of which are English Language Learners. Included in my classroom are students with learning and speech disabilities. I am passionate about providing my students with the best education possible. Unfortunately, many of my students are at a disadvantage because they do not have access to technology at home. Education is moving in a new direction in which students must have computer knowledge in order to succeed and complete mandated assessments. My students struggle because they do not possess enough knowledge on how to use technology. My students share three computers in the classroom throughout the day. This does not provide them with enough practice and exposure.
