I call my students "my kids" because that is truly how I feel about them. I like to stay informed on what is going in their lives, celebrate their accomplishments, and be there for the bad times. For many of our students the bad times are now. Our county has been struggling for some time but things have gotten worse in the last 6 months. We are rural Title 1 school. Our school has very limited means. The largest employer in our county has recently closed its doors. Our students and their families are facing hard times and many lifestyle changes. These changes in the community have affected the morale and attitudes of our students. They feel defeated. I want to help these students remember what it feels like to have success in their lives. I want to help restore a sense of pride in their community and themselves.
