I am the sole school counselor at an ethnically and socio-economically diverse school in a large, urban school system. Approximately 50% of my 720+ students come from low-income households. Our student body is made up of a variety of students- students who have tested into a gifted program, students with a variety of disabilities including cognitive impairments, learning disabilities, and autism, students who are in temporary living situations, and students who are English language learners. Because each student is bringing something so unique to our school, it makes for a wonderful place to learn about accepting differences and embracing diversity.
