My students are eighty six struggling readers in grades pre-K to 6. Most are reading at least two grade-levels below expectation. Many come to school lacking the minimum skills necessary to be successful readers and spend the majority of their elementary school career struggling to catch up to peers. In order for these students to catch up to peers, they need intense reading intervention. One of the biggest struggles in accelerating reading growth is that students need to work incredibly hard and be engaged in making their own growth. Many of my students have never experienced success when reading grade-level text and need continual motivation and intense instruction that is geared towards their interests.
