I teach at a Title 1 school. My school has one of the highest populations in my town of students who are on the free and reduced lunch program. The students at my school are great kids. But, they don't often have the same opportunities outside of school that students at other schools in the area have, simply because of their parents' economic situations. There are several students in my school who are homeless. Most students in my school do not take outside music lessons, and they're not involved in after school sporting clubs. Their opportunities to have enrichment activities are largely met at school. We have many after school and before school clubs that kids are involved in.
I offer a before school choir and currently have 80 kids involved in it-4th/5th grade students. So, kids in my school are eager to be involved and I am eager to create new opportunities for learning for them.
