My students number 300 in a large urban district. We have a very diverse population of learners and consist of 50% English language learners as well as 88% free or reduced lunch. As the school counselor, I work with all of the students weekly in their classroom guidance time. I also have many other opportunities to work with students as individuals or in small groups to support learning. Our school is a community where our students come not only to learn, but to be encouraged, cared for, provided for, and fed. As a low income school, many of our students are in need of supplies and our teachers provide those materials with their own financial resources because we care so much about our students having the materials that will help them to be successful.
