In my 8 years of teaching, I have noticed that the items on my list are the supplies my students frequently go through and need throughout the year. Unfortunately, many of them do not come with these items for various reasons. You will notice when looking at the items some support basic care needs. With budget cuts, all of these are things I purchase in order to best care for my students. Coming in from recess and getting a properly cleaned wound with a band-aid seems so basic, however, when a nurse is not in the building 5 days a week, I need those items readily available to care for my student in a timely manner. With your support, my students will start the school year off strongly with the supplies and materials they need to be successful, not only academically, but successfully cared for the way they deserve to be cared for. As a math and science teacher I will use these items to teach through problem solving. The composition grid notebooks are great for students to work through problems in a more inquiry based, problem solving approach. My school has recently adopted a new style of teaching mathematics through Japanese Lesson Study Alliance. Students use their journals, highlighters, crayons, and colored pencils to demonstrate their thinking and model through mathematics. Students then engage in rich conversations around the math they see their peers using and make connections between strategies.
