The Chromebooks in my classroom will be used on a daily basis for a variety of purposes. In an English classroom, students are expected to be able to type out their writing as well as have access to research outlets to help them fully understand the topics we are discussing or the content we are reading. With only having a teacher laptop and one additional desktop and a limited time in the school computer lab, it is difficult to make sure each student gets the time they need to spend gaining the skills needed to be successful in the future. Not only will the Chromebooks be used for typing out their writing, research, creating presentations, and blogging, but they will also be learning the much needed skill of navigating through the web.
I am requesting 8 Chromebooks to help build towards a 1:1 initiative in my classroom. I am also hoping to start a flipped classroom model. Under this classroom model, a teacher videos and records the explanation of information and students watch the videos at home and do practice with the videos. However, not all students have access to tech at home and need to be able to utilize this technology. Students will also use online programs and other interactive, engaging websites to supplement and scaffold their instruction. My students will utilize the many features in Google for Education, in addition to numerous other resources that are becoming the rise in technology and education.
