I have been fortunate enough to take over an Independent Living Skills class. This class is a special education program that works with students with moderate disabilities like Intellectual Disabilities, Autism, Specific Learning Disabilities and Other Health Impairments. The classroom I am taking over has had many intermittent teachers in the past few years, so I have spent a lot of time cleaning and replacing supplies to provide my students the best learning environment I can. My students are with me all day. We work on all academics together: reading, writing, math, science, history. Plus we build in cooking, social skills, community based instruction, vocational skills and independence to our weekly routines. I am looking forward to learning about my students, building a fun and safe learning environment, and watching my students grow into more skillful and independent students.
