Our school is a large urban school serving grades Pre-K through eight. Approximately 1700 students attend the school and about 75% of those students receive free or reduced lunch. There is a mix of ethnicities at our school; about 50% of students identify themselves as Hispanic, 30% as black, 15% as white and 5% as Asian or multiracial.
Our first grade ELL class is comprised mostly with immigrant students who are new to our country from places like the Caribbean Islands, South America and Europe. We also have students who were born in our community and are being raised by families who have lived in our area for generations. This cultural diversity brings about great opportunities for embracing different cultures and learning about different ways of life.
My students are energetic and excited about learning. They love when I incorporate technology into our activities.
