The picture of my class shows 25 students who are racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse. These students vary widely in their skills, gifts, strengths, needs, abilities, and disabilities. Majority of the students are eligible for Free or Reduced Lunch. Several students qualify to receive special services such as Gifted and Talented, Speech, Resource, Occupational Therapy, etc. Two students have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Bill Gates is quoted as saying: "If you give people tools, and they use their natural ability and their curiosity, they will develop things in ways that will surprise you very much beyond what you might have expected." Unfortunately, the ability of our public school system to get the tools necessary to help our students 'surprise all of us beyond expectations' is implausible. Yes, my hands are full.... but so is my heart. Thank you in advance for your support.
