My students are new to high school and motivated to learn. They are driven by challenges and rise to the occasion. They come from many different background and have been accepting to each other. They encourage each other to share perspectives and validate and listen to each other. They are also normal Sophomores who struggle occasionally with motivation, who talk during class or pull out their phones when they should not. They deal with regular and unique problems of teenagers. Their attention span is not ready for a 90 minutes lecture. They like being involved with what they are learning. They want to be active learners. What I love the most is that they will take ownership in their learning and are not afraid to be honest with themselves or with me.
