I teach in a low income, high ESL population school. My students are bright, friendly, and eager to learn from each other and me. I know several of my students do not have any books at home so i want to be sure I give ample opportunities at school to read and hear reading. More than one third of my class are English Language Learners who speak Spanish in the home. Often, any books read at home are read in Spanish. They need to have plenty of opportunities to hear stories and follow along in English to increase vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency.
