My students have now turned into avid readers! We have 15 minutes of silent library book reading before each class period. I'll admit at first they thought they were being punished. Now they beg for more time every day. It's went from, "Why do we have to do this?" to "Please, can we read all hour?" All it took was finding the right books. We don't have a Middle School Library right now but we are all working together to get one started. Our school is small and we don't have an extra room available. We are keeping the books we get through different avenues on a shelf in the hallway. The students are reading them so quickly we don't even have a checkout system in place. We do have a high school library available to them to walk over to.
