William Howard Taft High School is located in Norwood Park in Chicago. It is a diverse school where 49% are Caucasian: Polish, Bosnian, Serbian, Romanian, Bulgarian to name a few, 40% percent are Hispanic: Mexican, Puerto Rican, Ecuadorians, Colombians, etc, 8% Asian and the rest from many other parts of the world. Therefore, I have students who speak different languages at home such as: Polish, Serbian, Korean, Hindi, Spanish, Greek, etc. Many of whom are first and second generation Americans. Their dreams beyond High School range from becoming doctors, teachers, lawyers, to becoming computer programmers, pilots, and so on. They are very eager to learn Spanish as they understand knowing another language opens doors to limitless opportunities, even if Taft is considered the crowdest High school in CPS (3,200 students intended for 2,200). We are a Wall to WalL IB school as part of the International Baccalaureate foundation.
