Support Mrs. Cook's classroom with a gift that fosters learning.
Throughout the year, our classroom has contained anywhere from 20 to 25 students. Our classroom/school is very transient so students "come and go" frequently. My goal as a teacher is to help these students feel at home and safe when they are here. I believe yoga has helped many students feel that they belong and that they can trust in the classroom.
Many are very harsh on themselves in a negative way and I feel that through yoga and mindfulness that they build respect for themselves and for the people around them.
So much of our classroom curriculum is academic in nature but to help students in academics, their self-worth and respect needs to be top-notch. If it is, they are able to grow academically more quickly. This is where so many kids in our classroom have seen growth.
In ones student's writing, she stated, "...and sometimes when I am angry I can take a deep breath and I don't feel so angry anymore." This is what I want for all students in my classroom. They're all amazing!
