My students are ages eleven to fourteen. I have about 420 students a year. Art is a daily experience for 45 days. I teach them art history and contemporary artists, different artistic medias, different styles, sketchbook drawings for homework, both 2-dimensional and sculptural 3-dimensional work, elements and principles of design, etc. I really want to expose students to so many areas of art through an everyday connection. If students can relate to the art, they will bring it along with their everyday learning. This is such a crucial time in their artistic development. Students decide whether or not art is important in their lives. Let's show them that art is not just important but, crucial for their creative thinking and problem solving.
