Most of my students are English as a second language learners and students with special needs. Many of the English as a second language learners are refugees and come here with very little. 100% of my class is at the poverty level. Due to the high poverty level in our classroom and school, the students rely on us for many things. They look to us for emotional and material support that they do not get at home. Our students are all eager to learn and discover new things. We work hard to create a classroom environment that fosters a love of learning in a comfortable and safe environment. The students benefit greatly from interacting and learning with each other. Most of our classroom population learn through conversational and hands on experiences . We strive to create areas throughout the room where students can work comfortably with each other without being confined to their desks. The students also love to sit close to the Promethean board during lessons.
