My students have a diagnosis of Autism and have been placed in a 6:1:1 setting. We are known as a Title I school in which our students come from low income neighborhoods. We are currently sharing a school with a middle school and elementary school. We are currently located on the third floor on top of the middle school. The classroom sizes are big, and the furniture is not enough to fill up the void. In our classroom, we have a mixed level of students, we have Early Learners and Intermediate Learners. Some of the students are Verbal with functional communication skills, others are verbal with minimal functional communication skills, and they are some who are non verbal. Each students has their own preference of likes and dislikes, and the rate of demand for each is very different. As different as my students are the one thing they have in common, is that as their teacher, I want nothing more to give them in the classroom, a level of independence and room to grow.
