My students are loved. Many have families beyond mother and father who are willing to love them and raise them and protect them when mom and dad are incapable. Many of them have experienced hurt and betrayal, but they are resilient and strong. They are diamonds in the rough- they have so much potential, they just need a little shining.
Our school is sought after for it's resources and experience in dual language immersion. The DLI program starts in 1st grade, so my students do not experience it, but they are part of the diversity that will thrive in such a program. They are thirsty for information and knowledge, but they don't always have the support for it. This year, our school qualifies for a breakfast and lunch program that supplies free meals for all students. These very well may be the only meals these kids are getting.
The parents in my classroom want to volunteer but are often unable to. I do not have aids or help- it's just me. And 25 students with very different needs.
