My students are the most surprising, frustrating, and beautiful group of diverse artists. I have watched them grow and discover their personal styles over time. They are a hilarious bunch, who love to laugh, love to create, and remind me every day that I am enough. They aren't my students - they are my babies, and every day with them presents challenges, happy moments, sad moments, moments of celebration, and moments of bonding that I am never really prepared for. I am often overcome with emotion and just so happy to be able to be there for them that I wish I could give them more. My school has a large Hispanic population, located in the outskirts of Orlando, with many students who come from low-income families. These kids overcome struggles, as if being a teenager isn't enough, and they find joy and relief in my classroom.
