My students have been really motivated to do environmental projects that involve recycling, reusing, and reducing. In the past we have taken part in recycling paper at school, picking up litter around our schoolyard, recycling broken crayons for kids in hospitals, and conservation awareness for energy use and water consumption at school.
My students have requested that we create an environmental Green Team for the next school year where they can bring more awareness to the school and community about ways to recycle, reduce, and reuse as well as composting! Since we will be having our first school garden I would like to introduce composting as a way to help our garden with lunch leftovers. In the past students have a lot of food that ends up in the trash. Why not introduce kids to composting and gardening for fresh vegetables and fruits?
The benefits are endless: environmental awareness, clean school, efficient use of resources, healthier kids, nature connection, life skills, and more well-rounded kids for a better future and planet!
