In the Resource Room, my role is to provide individualized instruction to meet each students' IEP goals. I work with small groups of classified students 4 times a week for 45 minutes. I reinforce skills that are taught in the classroom and teach strategies that my students can apply when working independently. These children come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. My school is in a district where approximately 18,000 students attend non-public school and the remaining 8,000 students attend public schools. Resources are limited and major cuts have been made eliminating vital programs such as art and music. General education classes in our 4-6 grade building have increased up to 31 students in a class. With a lack of resources and teaching materials, it becomes a challenge for our students to meet their education with success.
