My amazing students come to school full of energy and excitement to learn. Expecting them to sit all day on a hard chair is simply unrealistic. I know that I could not do it! There is very encouraging research around flexible seating. Some findings show an overall academic improvement of 16% in all subject areas (Edutopia, 2018). This is an advantage and tool that all of my hard working students truly deserve.
Some of the seating options that will be provided with this project are wobble cushions, bean bags, bouncy bands, and exercise balls.
All of these options empower my students by giving them control and choice in the classroom. Flexible seating gives students the opportunity to understand how they learn best. They will use this skill throughout their lives. I believe that a teacher's job is to create a safe environment and provide students with the tools to be independent learners. Flexible seating helps with both of these goals.
This project would help meet the needs of my students and keep them focused throughout the day. I want my students to feel that our classroom is like a home, filled with a loving class family. This is another way to show them just how much I care about them and what is best for their learning!
