I have a range of readers in the room, including those who enjoy Kafka and Coelho, to those who fall asleep at the idea of holding a book. They have very little experience going into libraries or purchasing books, which is something we want to change. In the meantime, I need to book it and get books in their hands as fast as possible for our daily independent reading time - our school library can only offer so much. I am a firm believer that getting the right texts in their hands will captivate their imaginations. Having spent 10 days community building with them and learning about individual interests, I now feel confident enough to order books that will motivate them to enjoy reading so that they can thereby do better in *all* their classes and, most importantly, appreciate the gift of books. I want to put a range of books into their hands - biographies, memoirs, historical fiction, romance, graphic novels, sports stories - anything that corresponds to their various interests. I have spoken to each of them individually and collected a list of their interests, so the books I have chosen represent their unique interests. With a heightened love of reading, I know they will be inspired to be the agents of change we all want them to be!
