Building a classroom library is the greatest way to teach students about the world around them without leaving the classroom. Not only is it the most basic and traditional way, but it is also the most imaginative way. When our students discover brand new books in our library that offer even more information that they can discover on their own, they will make even deeper connections.
Books may not sound as exciting as iPads and computers but the spectacular pictures, the vibrant colors, clearly defined words and fresh print will activate all senses of the reader and engage them in all stages of reading. Take a look at the 2nd and 3rd grade sets of nonfiction, NGSS texts that I chose for my classes. These books will support our topics of Plants, Animals, Force and more with some more information, awesome pictures and detailed pages. Our students will forever be grateful to be able to read, learn and grow from our newly donated books that teach us even more than we expected!
