Third graders are curious, precocious, and full of energy! I currently teach math to 44 students every day. We live in rural Maine, where many of our students have free or reduced meal plans. Although many would be considered middle class, there is a big discrepancy between what that means in Maine and what that means in other parts of the U.S. Our school has a team teaching model, allowing teachers to focus on content where they have the greatest expertise, resulting in deeper and more engaging lessons. Promoting math, critical thinking, and problem solving skills are priorities for our school and our district. We have a very active parent and volunteer base, but our resources are few. We have access to technology, but it can be limited - like when we have to share 20 Ipads among 150 third grade students! We are progressive, staying on the cutting edge of standards based education, and are willing to try new and innovative things in the classroom. We are a close knit family.
