My students are elementary level and span the elementary levels of kindergarten through fifth grade. They enjoy working with their hands but many do not have access to art supplies at home. Many of my students come from working families who are not able to afford art supplies for students at home. The art supplies that are currently available in my two schools are two dimensional and for 3D works we use paper mache. My students have asked me over my ten years with the school district about the use of clay and I have in the past written grants and offered an after-school program. However, the students who are from poor families were not able to attend the after-school program. This circumstance allowed clay experience to only a few students. It is my goal to enable all my students to experience the excitement that clay production brings to the life of these students and the knowledge that is added through the experience.
