My class this year is incredibly bright, creative, AND energetic. Sitting is almost painful for many of them, especially in the old 1970s chairs we inherited. Within a minute or two of sitting down, students are popping up onto their knees, hanging legs off the back of their chairs, and popping up and down like a Jack-in-the-Box. This makes focusing really difficult. I allow them to stand while working at times, but that often makes it hard for others to see. I have also shortened my lessons to 10 minutes at a time and made them very active, but that is still hard on them. Tests are excruciatingly painful. Our school is in now a wealthy area, but because of our district designation from 30 years ago does not get the money it should. There is no money in the furniture budget to get my class new chairs.
