The kids that I work with are Special Education, and Resource kids who need a little more help with their learning. They are very enthusiastic to come to school and love to participate in helping out their teacher in all sorts of ways. Our school is a Title I school which mainly consists of minority students who lack family structure, or come from single family homes, or live in a foster home and even group homes.
I pull the students into small groups and I go into the classroom for inclusion. Starting the garden project will allow me to teach the kids something that relates to science and another skill besides reading, writing and math. Some students feel safer at school so I will enjoy helping them here to learn and know they have someone and something else to depend on.
