Our school is located in a large urban area. The ELL students I teach are from all over the world including Peru, Somalia and China. They are in first, second and third grade and meet with me multiple times a week in small groups for ESL instruction. They treat each other with a great deal of respect and are proud to be students who speak or whose families speak a language other than English. They work extremely hard as they develop their English language skills while simultaneously building knowledge about science and social studies concepts. They ask insightful questions, collaborate on projects and provide each other with feedback. They are motivated to learn and do so in such a kind and caring way that it is very rewarding to be their teacher.
