My students are enrolled in Reading Intervention classes (kids reading two or more years below their grade level). These classes help close the skills gap so that my students are reading on grade level by the time they get to the more rigorous, college-prep work of high school.
These struggling readers love using technology to help their reading skills!
With just six Chromebooks in my classroom, ALL my students will be able to access programs such as Lightsail, Lexia and NewsELA, programs that will help them bridge the gap in their reading skills. These online resources provide scaffolding to support student reading through questions and note-taking activities, as well as privacy about what texts they choose to read. Students no longer need to feel embarrassed about reading a book or text at their appropriate reading level that might seem "baby-ish" to peers. Teachers also love these resources because they communicate real-time data about students' reading rate, comprehension level, and lexile growth, for example.

Help our struggling readers catch up to their peers through the use of technology!
